AFE have designed and manufactured a new product, the launch and tail pack for

optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDR’s). They are custom single and multi-mode

launch packs, designed for the test and measurement market.

AFE’s launch pack allows the user to measure the initial section of fibre which would be

a blind area (dead zone) if measured solely with an OTDR, thus reducing the effect of

the OTDR launch pulse and the accompanying measurement uncertainty. Using two

launch packs allows the user to measure the insertion loss and reflectance of the

connections at both ends of the fibre being tested.

The launch pack is housed in a rugged case which is rated at IP67.
